Welcome to the webpage of the Di

Welcome to the webpage of the Diablo Action Pistol (DAP) located at
4700 Evora Road in Concord,
California. This site is the official webpage of DAP shooters and exists to
provide information about DAP, action shooting, and to post the monthly DAP
shooting match results for the benefit of its members.
The history of the DAP goes back to approximately 1988 when the by-laws of DAP
were adopted by its founding members. The group was established through the
sponsorship of the Diablo Rod and Gun
Club which is one of four members only clubs forming the United Sportsmen,
Incorporated (USI). In order to join and participate in DAP, one must first be a
member of one of the four USI clubs and then apply to DAP.
Additionally, to participate in the DAP action pistol shooting events,
matches and practices,
members are required to first attend and complete a two day
orientation session. Those
new shooters who have little or no experience with firearms should complete a
firearms safety course prior to signing up. Orientation sessions are scheduled
once every three months. At the orientation, prospective shooters are given
instructions on DAP range safety,
equipment, and procedures. The
second day of orientation consists of the new shooters participating in the
monthly DAP match to familiarize them with range safety, match procedures, stage
setups, and actual competition.
Since the fall of 1997, DAP has been shooting in a
new facility built through the hard work and efforts of its members, in
particular, Bruce Ahern and John Geisness, as well as through the guidance of
Tom Beddoes, chairman emeritus.
The range has five shooting bays with ten foot high railroad tie walls to
protect shooters from ricochets and bullet splatter. This enables multiple
squads to shoot at the same time while other squads are scoring and picking up
brass in the individual stages. DAP presently has more than 150 active shooters
and welcomes new members, including spouses and family, to join and compete at
action shooting matches. Since July, 1998, women shooters compete and receive
awards within their own classification.
Monthly matches are held on the second Sunday of every month except in December.
Practice days are the first and third Saturday and Thursday afternoons, weather
and lighting permitting.
